They said the "appropriate authorities" were preparing to shoot down the unidentified flying object, according to the Global Times.
They did not say what the object was, but hunters in the area were told to be vigilant about safety.
It comes just days after the US and Canada shot down three high-altitude airborne objects, including one the US said was deliberately sent by China for spying purposes.
The alleged spy balloon is believed to have floated through 150 nuclear weapons silos at Malmstrom Air Force Base, in Montana, and the US Strategic Command, in Nebraska, which controls the country's nuclear force.
The Chinese balloon cruised from January 28 to February 4 and was eventually shot down off the coast of South Carolina.
Three airports were closed and airspace closed off the coasts of North and South Carolina, while the military carried out the operation on Saturday.
