+Font size-

Main battle tanks are designed to take the battle into enemy territory and survive harsh battles. Once you look at them, you will feel that you are looking at the battlefields. Their designs differ from different manufacturers, but they are similar in their massive firepower and armor that are difficult to penetrate.

The current main battle tanks were manufactured during the Cold War, and the arms race led to their development and providing them with firepower comparable to heavy tank artillery.

It was also equipped with solid armor to protect it from heavy tank attacks, and so far its movement is still easier and faster than modern and lighter tanks.

Since the 1960s, main battle tanks have been the most widely used tanks around the world and will likely remain so for some time to come.

We will mention to you  3 of the best and most powerful of these tanks in the world:

1-Leopard A72 (Germany)

A modern version of the previously tried-and-tested design that made the Leopard 2 so successful. It features additional armor and updated electronics.

The Leopard A72 is well protected against conventional threats and urban warfare, such as RPGs and IEDs.

This tank has better accuracy and longer fire range compared to other tanks due to its powerful cannon in addition to the advantage of the advanced fire control system.

The Leopard A72 is powered by a rigorously tested engine with a power of 1,500 horsepower. Despite its heavy weight, it has the ability to move around with ease due to the improvement of its suspension components.

Its battle performance is similar to other Leopard 2 tanks.

The German Army has ordered the first batch of 20 Leopard 2A7 tanks, an improved version of the Leopard 2A6.

Deliveries started in 2014. The Bundeswehr plans to upgrade from 50 to 150 2A7 tanks.

While the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requested 200 tanks of the same category, while Qatar requested 62 tanks.

2- K2 Black Panther (South Korea)

The Black Panther is currently one of the most advanced main battle tanks in the world, outperforming any that North Korea or China has. Moreover, it is the most expensive main battle tank to date

This tank uses a composite armor of different materials, the details of which are not announced, and anti-explosive armor units.

The frontal armor is claimed to be able to withstand direct hits from 120mm anti-tank rounds fired from L55 guns.

Its protection is very similar to its American counterpart, the M1A2 Abrams, noting that the K2 is much lighter.

The Black Panther also features an active protection system and countermeasures system, which increases its survivability in service.

This new South Korean tank is armed with the latest German 120mm/L55 guns, similar to those used in the German Leopard A62 and Leopard 2A7.

It also has a very advanced fire control system that can identify, track and automatically fire at visible car-sized targets and even low-flying helicopters, without requiring any input from a human operator.

K2 also uses advanced munitions.

3- M1A2 SEB (United States)

The M1A2 SEB tank became the successor to the M1A2 Abrams. This tank is equipped with incredible technology and armor.

It has also been involved in combat operations, and has been described as one of the most fearsome tanks in the main battle.

The M1A2 SEP provides great protection against all known anti-tank weapons.

This main battle tank uses advanced armor and is reinforced with layers of depleted uranium.

Its firepower and accuracy is slightly inferior to the Leopard A7 2 or the South Korean K2 Black Panther due to its shorter 120 mm / L44 gun. Yet he still punches massively.

The complex gas turbine engine performs well, but it requires a huge amount of maintenance and logistics and consumes a lot of fuel.

There are about 900 M1A2 SEB tanks in service with the United States Army.

It is planned that this tank will remain in service until 2050. The M1A2 SEB has not yet been exported.

However, the previous M1A2 was supplied to Kuwait (218 tanks) and Saudi Arabia (373 tanks).
